April 20, 2008, 2:00 p.m.
Hartford, CT – April 10, 2008 – Go wild and explore the world in one country! From deserts to jungles, and everything in between, South Africa's bio-diversity is truly amazing for a nation its size. Experience it all for yourself in the film South African Safari playing at The Bushnell Center for the Performing Arts in Hartford Sunday, April 20, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. The engagement is part of the William H. Mortensen Travel Film Series and will be presented in The Bushnell’s Maxwell and Ruth Belding Theater.
South African Safari will be the final film in the William H. Mortensen Travel Film Series which was first launched in 1930. To honor the great contribution this series has made to Hartford’s cultural life over the past seven decades and to celebrate the delight which it has brought to over 200,000 passionate “arm-chair travelers”, The Bushnell is inviting patrons to a special Bon Voyage Party to be held in Autorino Great Hall immediately following the film.
Tickets for the South African Safari are on sale now and can be purchased by visiting The Bushnell Box Office at 166 Capitol Avenue in Hartford or by calling (860) 987-5900. Tickets may also be purchased online at www.bushnell.org. Groups of 10 or more should call (860) 987-5959. Tickets are $7.50.
Visit the "Garden of the Gods", the multi-colored spectacle of an entire landscape awash with wild flowers. Let the desolation and solitude of the famous Kalahari desert leave its lasting impression. We experience the rhythm, the power and the spirit of the Swazi dancers, and see the "Big Five" on their turf - 500 Cape Buffalo at the waterhole; Rhino in the setting African sun; a lion roaring across the bushveld; a lioness with her cubs; a leopard heading out for the nights hunt and elephants chewing the bark off branches. We drink in the enchanting coastline of the Garden Route from a window seat on the steam-powered Outeniqua Choo-Tjoe and travel along the Blyde River Canyon.
We will stay at some of the loveliest and most unique resorts in the country, perched atop Rock Lodge with the whole of the Kruger stretched out before you, nestled beneath the "Barrier of Spears" at Cathedral Peak Hotel, dine with the soaring vultures at Witsieshoek Mountain Resort; peak out of a thatched rondovel at the ramparts of the "Amphitheatre;" and gaze out at the full moon from an aqua-chalet in the Knysna Lagoon. Tour the gracious estates of the scenic Cape wine lands, and be humbled by the mystery of Bushman Rock Art.
