Grammy Award-Winner Ricky Skaggs to Celebrate His Music at The Bushnell

14-time Grammy Award-winner Ricky Skaggs comes to The Bushnell’s Mortensen Hall for one night only, Friday, November 6, 2009.

Hartford, CT – (September 23, 2009) – 2009 marks the 50th year since Ricky Skaggs struck his first chords on a mandolin, and this 14-time Grammy Award-winner continues to do his part to lead the recent roots revival in music.    RICKY SKAGGS & KENTUCKY THUNDER take to the stage in The Bushnell’s Mortensen Hall Friday, November 6, 2009 at 8:00pm.  Part of the Showcase Series supported by Bank of America.

Tickets for RICKY SKAGGS & KENTUCKY THUNDER are on sale now and can be purchased by visiting The Bushnell Box Office at 166 Capitol Avenue in Hartford or by calling (860) 987-5900.  Tickets may also be purchased online at www.bushnell.org.  Tickets start at $20.00.

Skaggs’ first-ever solo album, Ricky Skaggs Solo: Songs My Dad Loved (released September 15, 2009 on Skaggs Family Records), celebrates the man that caused him to fall in love with music – his father, Hobert Skaggs.  By coming home to the music that meant so much to him as a child, Ricky has tapped into a wellspring of passion that he channels into every tune.  It’s as though he willed himself back to his family’s house in Kentucky, and in doing so found the purest expression of his music to date.

Ricky Skaggs has often said that he is “just trying to make a living” playing the music he loves.  But it’s clear that his passion for bluegrass puts him in the position to bring this lively, distinctively American form of music out of isolation and into the ears and hearts of audiences across the country and around the world.

With 10 consecutive Grammy-nominated classics behind him, all from his own Skaggs Family Records label (Bluegrass Rules! in 1998, Ancient Tones in 1999, both Soldier of the Cross and Big Mon: The Songs of Bill Monroe in 2003, Brand New Strings in 2005, Instrumentals in 2007, Salt of the Earth with The Whites in 2008 and Honoring the Fathers of Bluegrass: Tribute to 1946 and 1947 in 2009), bluegrass music is undoubtedly in good hands, with the masterful Skaggs at the helm.
