“Martin Luther King, Jr. is unique in American history,” states Archbishop LeRoy Bailey, Jr., Senior Pastor of The First Cathedral. “His tireless pursuit for equality for all people has laid a solid foundation on which many social justice issues have been developed and accomplished over the past 40 plus years.  However, today, we find ourselves grappling with some of the same health and economic issues Dr. King spoke of in the 60’s.  So as a community, I think it’s an ideal time for us to pause and ask ourselves the question, ‘Where do we go from here?’”

Dr. King once said, "Of all the forms of inequality, injustice in health care is the most shocking and inhumane." With this one powerful charge, the Where Do We Go From Here: Addressing the Health and Wealth of Our Community concert is a call to action for several important activities and events planned at The First Cathedral for 2010-2011:

  • The Good Life Wellness Center will distribute information and conduct seminars throughout the year on health issues such as cardiovascular disease, cancer, diabetes, high blood pressure, and obesity.
  • The Financial Freedom Ministry will conduct financial classes on various aspects of money management.
  • The First Cathedral Health & Wellness Ministry will help organize the 1st Annual First Step Walk-A-Thon in the fall of 2010 and host its biennial Health Fair in October 2011, which will focus on the importance of healthy lifestyles, including good nutrition, exercise and preventive care for the entire family.

A totally unique program, Where Do We Go From Here: Addressing the Health and Wealth of Our Community, this year’s celebration honoring the life and legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., is becoming one of the most anticipated annual events in the Northeast. It is built upon the principal of community collaboration and the power of Dr. King's legacy to bring all people together for the greater good of our free and democratic society. This world-class production will showcase the power of creativity, the arts, the media and the spiritual content that binds us together to celebrate and honor the life of an American leader.

An uplifting evening for the entire family, Where Do We Go From Here features world renowned Gospel singers, Rev. Milton Biggham, the Hartford Symphony Orchestra, soprano opera singer Jolie Rocke Brown, actor and playwright Tiffany N. Bailey, classical vocalist and Ensign Darling Vocal Fellowship recipient Myra Alejandra, The Artists Collective, the Hartford Stage, The Amistad Center for Art & Culture, The Greater Hartford Academy of Arts’ jazz band, and 140 voices Community Choir.  Join Emcee Brad Davis as our community looks back on the incredible life of Martin Luther King, and looks forward to the day when his dream comes true.
