Les Misérables

Come Fly Away

Warriors Don’t Cry

Warriors Don’t Cry is a one-woman play adapted verbatim from the Little Rock Nine memoir by Melba Pattillo Beals who integrated Central High School in 1957.  The inspiring performance chronicles the arduous and violent year in which nine black students risked their lives for a good education.  In the post-show Q&A, students explore themes of bullying, hate speech, and other issues of contemporary relevance.

NOTE: This show uses strong, historically accurate language, including the use of derogatory terms.

Intergalactic Nemesis: A Live-Action Graphic Novel

The year is 1933. Pulitzer-winning reporter Molly Sloan, her intrepid assistant Timmy Mendez, and a mysterious librarian named Ben Wilcott face the most serious threat Earth has ever known: an impending invasion of sludge monsters from the planet Zygon.  This period-sci-fi-horror-suspense-comedy-romance is presented in a whole new format: while three actors, one Foley artist, and one keyboardist perform all the voices, sound effects and music, more than 1,000 hand-drawn comic-book images blast from the screen, all performed live.  This show is appropriate for all ages.

Chris Botti in Concert

FAMILY FUN DAY featuring Dragon Scales and Faerie Tales and An Afternoon with Buddy Valastro: The Cake Boss

This is The Bushnell’s Family Fun Day like you’ve never seen it before!  We’ll have the usual fun, FREE activities, PLUS two performances of the whimsical stage show Dragon Scales and Faerie Tales (also FREE), PLUS a visit from The Cake Boss himself, Buddy Valastro!  It will be a day jam-packed with entertainment that both kids and parents will love.  See below for more details about the day’s performances.

Dragon Scales and Faerie Tales

A beautiful faerie helps a baby dragon hatch from a golden egg – a really big golden egg.  Together, the faerie and the audience welcome the dragon, name it, feed it, and teach it to talk.  They tell the dragon a bedtime story so he won’t be afraid of the children, who all look so different to him.   Follow the Enchanted Gypsy Wagon that sits on the back of a turtle – a really big turtle – driven by a really big hedgehog.  

Come dressed as your favorite fairy tale character.  Bring your faerie wings, your magic wand, and most of all, your imagination.

John Steptoe’s Mufaro’s Beautiful Daughters: An African Tale

Based on the Caldecott Award-winning book by John Steptoe, adapted for the stage by Karen Abbott, and with music and lyrics by S-Ankh Rasa.  When a great African king desires a wife, only the most worthy and beautiful maidens in the land are invited to his court.  Mufaro’s pride and joy, his two daughters of very different dispositions, travel across a river and half a day’s journey to meet the king.  With traditional chanting and African song, this is a Cinderella story celebrating goodness, generosity, and love.

The House at Pooh Corner

The Best of Ha! Ha! Hartford!

96.5 TIC-FM’s Damon Scott returns once again to host a special, Friday the 13th Ha! Ha! Hartford!  We’ve selected the cream of the crop from comedians who have previously been featured in The Bushnell’s homegrown comedy series and we’re bringing them back for an all-star, encore performance.  The lineup with include Eric McMahon, who last performed at The Bushnell during the inaugural season of Ha! Ha! ten years ago, and Jessica Kirson, who brought the house down in November 2010, along with one other comedian to be announced.

This show is not recommended for children under the age of 18 due to some content intended for mature audiences.

Cinematic Titanic

Mystery Science 3000 Fans rejoice!  Cinematic Titanic is the feature-length movie-riffing show from the creator and original cast of MST3K. Like the original, this new live show was created by Joel Hodgson and features the same team that first brought the Peabody Award winning cult-classic series to life: Trace Beaulieu (Crow, Dr. Forrester), J. Elvis Weinstein (Tom Servo, Dr. Erhardt), Frank Conniff (TV’s Frank), and Mary Jo Pehl (Pearl Forrester).  Cinematic Titanic continues the tradition of riffing on the unfathomable, the horribly great, and the just plain cheesy movies from the past.  Separate movies at 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.  Movie titles TBA.  Not recommended for children.

Mike Birbiglia’s My Girlfriend’s Boyfriend

On this painfully honest journey, Birbiglia struggles to find reason in an area where it may be impossible to find -- love.
