Meet the Artists
Ballet Folklorico de las AmericaBased in Stamford, Ballet Folklorico celebrates Latin cultural dances from Mexico, Brazil, Central America, the Caribbean, and Colombia through captivating live performances featuring traditional music and stunning historical costumes. Their repertoire includes vibrant rhythms such as mariachi, cumbia, samba, and marimba. Founded by three Colombian sisters—Paola, Diana, and Kelly Garcia—who have been dancing since childhood, Ballet Folklorico is dedicated to preserving and showcasing the richness of Latin culture, even while away from home. In 2024, they embarked on the Hispanic Heritage Tour, performing in over 20 venues across various states, including schools and festivals, and organizing multicultural events open to the public.

Featuring curated vignettes from 6 digital artists from around the world, this fusion of live performance and fine art invites you to leave reality behind!
François Vogel, based in France, manipulates his video and photography to play with our perception of reality and immerse us in unique distorted universes. He shares several of his award-winning pieces With the Bushnell, warping dance, environments and movement into a shape-shifting other-worldly collage.
Pamela Hersch, Mexican-born artist based in Massachusetts, creates work inspired by organic movement, and nature's colors, patterns, and textures. Her work featured at The Bushnell combines her colorful patterns with abstract 3D visuals capturing the motion of live dance.
John Bashyam, based in Los Angeles, creates digital art for films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and some of the music industry's biggest acts, including The Weeknd, ACDC, Guns N’ Roses, Zedd and Kid Cudi. But it’s his giant donut art that has earned him his social media following, and which he shares in this exhibit.
Kristen-Innes Stambolic (tinylines), based in Toronto, is a graphic designer, animator and dancer who creates unique and colorful line art inspired by natural movements. In her work at The Bushnell, she composites her tiny lines directly onto dancers, capturing dynamic movement and merging film and animation.
Balkan Karışman, a Turkish artist based in Germany, creates algorithmic collages to make assumptions about the perception of analog and virtual, past and future, realistic and surreal. He brings his extraordinary glitch-inspired cityscapes to the walls of The Bushnell.
서효정 (Seohyo), based in Seoul, is a celebrated digital artist creating generative art through computer code by constructing mathematically imagined shapes. She features 2 new pieces at the Bushnell, ‘Pillared Landscapes’ and ‘Luminous Echos’.

Theatrical Animals
Bill Berloni of Theatrical Animals is Broadway’s first and most acclaimed animal trainer with a career-long commitment to featuring rescued animals with humane training techniques. He has provided animals of all species and sizes for Broadway, Off-Broadway, national tours, regional theater, film, television, and commercials and was awarded a special Tony Award for Excellence in Theatre. In addition to his work as a trainer, Bill is a behavior consultant for the Humane Society. Stop by the Mortensen Grand Foyer to see a fun video featuring some of his performing rescue dogs. Bill hopes to remind patrons to choose adoption when adding a pet to their home. Also, spot the featured rescue cats who live with Bushnell staff members!

Lorelei Chang
Lorelei Chang founded the cross-cultural performing arts company danceEnlight in 2008 with her twin sister Mai Nakanishi, pioneering the combination of Chinese calligraphy, Qigong, and modern dance. They have since performed across Asia and the United States, including the closing ceremony of the 2018 Winter Olympics in South Korea. For this work, “DAO,” created especially for the Bushnell’s installation, Lorelei explores Wu Xing, the five elements of life, expressed in ancient movement and calligraphy.

Hartford's Proud
Hartford’s Proud was founded in 2013 by Terry and Duffy Starks to bring sound, movement and artistry to the overall development of Hartford area youth. Serving youth between the ages of 5 and 24, they perform regularly throughout the state and beyond. Hartford’s Proud also founded “Stomp the Violence,” a collaboration between the community and the police to inspire solutions to violence in the city of Hartford.

Funky Dawgz
The CT-based Funky Dawgz perform a unique mix of original music, hip hop, funk, and today’s top hits with an energetic brass twist. They have toured internationally, performed with groups like Dispatch and Sammy Rae & the Friends, and been featured on television programs on FX and ESPN. When the band is not playing shows they are giving back to the community, working to engage and inspire music education in inner city schools across the country.

Stories of Queer Love
Five choreographers use five different styles of dance to explore stories of queer love- from tentative exploration, to passionate polyamory, to agonizing conflicts. Featuring work by choreographers from across Connecticut and beyond, including modern dance by Garet Wierdsma, Hip Hop and Latin dance by Lyrik Cruz, Contemporary Ballet by Carolyn Paine, and Aerial Silks by Stacey Strange and Dani Bobbi Lee. The project was conceived and directed by The Bushnell’s digital production team, directed by Ryan Glista and produced by Paine.

The Bushnell's own Ryan Glista, filmmaker and Director of the Local Arts Stage, is also an accomplished composer and musician. Watch his hands make magic on giant glowing piano keys spread across the 50-foot Grand Foyer Lobby projection display, featuring dancers from Ballet School Stamford.

Rasa Dance Project
Led by Artistic Directors Rachna Ramya and Aishwarya Chakravarthy, Rasa Dance Project preserves and promotes classical Indian Dance through performances, educational programs, and community engagement around Connecticut. Rachna Ramya is a Kathak dancer, choreographer, educator, published author and recipient of Connecticut Dance Alliance’s Distinguished Achievement Award. Aishwarya Chakravarthy is a performer, choreographer and Instructor of the ancient Indian classical dance form of Bharathanatyam. Six of their student dancers ages 12 to 16 perform on the digital screens and lobby wall, accompanied by famed sitar player Abhik Mukherjee.

The Lab
The Lab is a creative space for the arts, offering modern dance classes in Meriden, Connecticut. Choreographed by Brandon Couloute, Gerald Lovelace and Fab Rendon, The Lab’s dancers collaborate with the The Bushnell’s digital media team and three hip hop musicians to bring a unique video experience to The Bushnell’s digital stage. Featured music includes Michael Minelli’s ‘Major Payne’ and ‘Trouble’, John Violinist’s covers of 'Dirt Off Your Shoulder' (Jay-Z) and 'The Box' (Roddy Ricch), and Briana Maia’s latest single, ‘Feel It.’

Sky Casper’s Queens
For nearly a decade, Sky Casper’s LGBTQ+ events and drag shows have brought comedy, music and celebration to Connecticut and throughout the east coast. Sky was recently chosen as one of CT Magazine’s 40 under 40 most influential young people, recognizing his popular drag brunches, cabarets and pride events, featuring incredible local talent. Six hilarious drag queens star in a digital screen performance here at The Bushnell, with a Broadway-busting script by Carolyn Paine and Jacques Lamarre.

Sammy Rae & The Friends
Complete with a rhythm section, two saxophones, keyboards, and plenty of percussion, Sammy Rae & The Friends have delivered their high-energy, spirited and unrestrained shows to sold-out audiences around the US and Europe. Fronted by Connecticut native singer/songwriter Sammy Rae, The Friends flourish in any spotlight with a camaraderie, palpable chemistry, and unique sound rooted in classic rock, folk, and funk and sprinkled with soul and jazz. For the digital stage, they perform their hits ‘Denim Jacket’, ‘Jackie Onassis’ and ‘Let’s Throw A Party’.

The West End Wizbangers
The West End Wizbangers began as a trio in the summer of 2020. With their saxophone, accordion, and drums, they started outdoor musical parades to bring joy to the community amid the pandemic. They have expanded to six jazz players to perform a jazz version of “Happy” by Pharrell Williams and a West End Wizbanger original for The Bushnell.

Storrs A Cappella
This group of singers originally began performing together at E.O. Smith High School in 2010. While some members have left Connecticut to pursue a variety of careers from financial advising to video game design to fashion photography, they have remained close and continue to practice their craft. They staged a reunion to perform “What A Wonderful World” for the Local Arts Stage.

Stafford Handbell Society, Wildring HandBell Ensemble, St. Luke Lutheran Church Handbells
Members from three different renowned handbell groups create a beautiful chorus of sound as the largest group to perform on the local arts stage with nearly 40 musicians participating. Musical director of The Stafford Handbell Society, Phillip Lanier, conducts the bell ringers with the help of assistant director, Neesa Hart. The SHS is internationally known for its performances and is one of the largest handbell communities in the United States. These dedicated and passionate musicians perform a set of Holiday tunes and two different medleys with songs you're sure to recognize!

Orquesta La Yuqueña
Orquesta La Yunqueña was formed in 2010 in Meriden, Connecticut and has since become one of the premier salsa bands in New England. They frequently perform around Greater Hartford, lighting up stages, festivals and weddings. The thirteen members specialize in Salsa Gorda, covering songs from artists like Bobby Valentine, Cano Estremera, Hector Lavoe, Frankie Ruiz. Salsa at its best, “Nuestro Orgullo!”. The group performs “Lluvia (Agua Que Cae Del Cielo)” for the Local Arts Stage.

The POSSM at Hartbeat Music Festival
The Hartbeat Music Festival is a free, day-long celebration of local and regional music, hands-on music activities, and local food along the Connecticut River. Now in its fourth year, festival co-organizer Earl Henrichon allowed The Bushnell to capture his band, ‘Professors of Sweet, Sweet Music’ aka ‘The POSSM’, for the Local Arts Stage. The band is well-known for their energetic and eclectic originals, becoming 3-time Best of Hartford Winners. They perform their original song, ‘Tidal Wave’, for the Local Arts Stage.

Sonia Plumb Dance Company
Since reforming in 2012, Sonia Plumb Dance Company has reached over 9,000 audience members of all ages and abilities in the Greater Hartford region. Through a multi-pronged approach to programming, SPDC reaches beyond the arts community with a diverse repertoire that reflects upon larger societal issues through performances, classes, workshops, community outreach, arts integration residencies and collaborations with musicians and composers, artists and actors, puppeteers, poets and professors.
Sonia Plumb and her dancers perform on the projection-mapped architecture on the Bushnell lobby wall and beyond, creating a fusion of classical and contemporary movement.

Air Temple Arts
Formed in 2013, Air Temple Arts has become the number one studio in Connecticut to learn circus arts. Youth and adults learn aerial silks, trapeze, juggling, lyra, handstands, and more in their Woodbridge studio. They have choreographed and performed a new variety piece in collaboration with The Bushnell.

Hartford Kids!
Savana Jones is a Hartford native with many years of experience as a dancer, choreographer, and teaching artist. She is the founder and director of “Rhythms in Color,” a current company member of “Dimensional Dance,” and has been performing in the outdoor production of "Night Fall" since 2016. Jones brought six of her students together to dance and paint on the walls of The Bushnell.

United Outkasts
In 2006, a group of bboys/breakdancers who regularly performed in the Greater Hartford area came together to create the United Outkast Crew. Today, UOK designs events that bring people together to experience music and dance. For The Bushnell Local Arts Stage, they present an immersive break battle in Heaven Skate Park, along with Tang Sauce’s local hit, ‘That’s funk right there’ and graffiti art by Taris ‘Poptart’ Clemons.

Hartt Voices
Hartt Voices is an ensemble dedicated to inspiring audiences by creating intimate, yet dynamic and engaging performances, focusing on a wide range of repertoire from 16th-century polyphony through contemporary works. Members come from a variety of different cultural, academic, and musical backgrounds which represents the breadth that the University of Hartford has to offer. The choir is led by Anthony Trecek-King, Hartt School Professor of Choral Music and Director of Choral Activities. The choir performs 'Let's Walk Together' by Paul Smith, conducted by Anthony Trecek-King, Hartt School Professor of Choral Music and Director of Choral Activities.

RiseUp Group / CT Murals
RiseUP is a Connecticut non-profit founded in 2015 to beautify communities through inclusive and accessible public art. The organization has created over 75 mural and place-making projects throughout Connecticut, working with over 40 local artists, partnering with hundreds of communities and organizations and hosting over 1,000 volunteer artists per year. RiseUp supports artists, cities, other nonprofits, companies, and local community members in making their mural projects come to life. Six RiseUp artists create a variety of pieces for the Local Arts Stage, ranging from a mosaic of Egyptian Queen Aten Nefertiti to an original portrait of historic singer Marian Anderson.

UConn DMD
The University of Connecticut's Digital Media & Design program in the School of Fine Arts provides innovative instruction across seven concentrations; 3D animation, motion design & animation, game design, web / interactive media design, digital media business strategies, film/video production, and digital culture.
A class of film and animation students taught by The Bushnell’s Ryan Glista present two unique performances; internationally recognized Blues group the Jake Kulak Band, and a Meditative Love Story with UConn student dancers. Conn-Men
Since 2001, the Conn-Men have brought some of the best all-male a capella to Connecticut and beyond. They’ve performed at the White House, the Connecticut Governor’s Mansion, UConn Athletic events and even opened for Pentatonix and the Yale Whiffenpoofs. Led by Chester Martin, this group of alums reunited to perform the classic American parlor song ‘Hard Times Come Again No More’ by Stephen Foster, arranged by Eclipse 6.

The Nutcracker Suite & Spicy
Performed at the Aetna Theater in Hartford’s Wadsworth Atheneum for over a decade, the Nutcracker Suite & Spicy is a rousing contemporary spin on the classic holiday ballet. Created and choreographed by Carolyn Paine, the critically acclaimed production fuses ballet, contemporary, hip hop, breakdancing, jazz, tap, ballroom and acrobatics, featuring a dynamic ensemble cast of Greater Hartford talent.
