Elephant Eye Theatrical

Back to Broadway and Beyond

ELEPHANT EYE THEATRICAL

In 2005, The Bushnell joined four other nationally-renowned performing arts organizations – Citi Performing Arts Center in Boston, the Ordway Center for the Performing Arts in St. Paul, the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts in Philadelphia, and the Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera Association in conjunction with the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust – in forming the producing consortium Five Cent Productions, LLC. Following this formation, Five Cent Productions joined former Disney Theatrical Productions Executive Vice President Stuart Oken and Tony Award-winning producer Michael Leavitt as a producing partner in Elephant Eye Theatrical.

Elephant Eye Theatrical is a theatrical development and production company that creates new book musicals for Broadway and beyond. The company finds and initiates projects, assembles creative teams, funds the genesis and ongoing evolution of the projects, and serves as lead producer when the projects are fully staged. While The Bushnell remains a presenting theater, producing new works allows us to have ownership, exclusivity and, ultimately, profitability from the projects we help create.

Below is a sampling of Elephant Eye Theatrical productions.

An American In Paris

A new world-premiere stage adaptation of An American In Paris, directed and choreographed by Christopher Wheeldon, opened on Broadway in 2015 and was nominated for twelve Tony Award, including Best Musical. With a book by Tony and Pulitzer Prize nominee Craig Lucas (The Light in the Piazza, Prelude To A Kiss), the production features a score by George Gershwin and Ira Gershwin and is based on the Academy Award-winning 1951 film that starred Gene Kelly and Leslie Caron.

Saved

Saved is a musical with music and lyrics by Michael Friedman and the book by John Dempsey and Rinne Groff, and is based on the 2004 film of the same name. It premiered Off-Broadway at Playwrights Horizons in 2008 under the direction of Gary Griffin. The cast featured Celia Keenan-Bolger (Mary), John Dossett (Pastor Skip), and Julia Murney (Lillian). The choreography was by Sergio Trujillo, costumes by Jess Goldstein, lighting by Donald Holder, and sets by Scott Pask.

The Addams Family

The weird and wonderful family of characters created by cartoon satirist Charles Addams come to devilishly delightful life in The Addams Family. This magnificently macabre new musical comedy was created by Jersey Boys authors Marshall Brickman & Rick Elice, Drama Desk Award winner Andrew Lippa (The Wild Party), choreographer Sergio Trujillo (Jersey Boys), and Olivier Award-winning original directors and designers Phelim McDermott & Julian Crouch (Shockheaded Peter) with direction by four-time Tony Award® winner Jerry Zaks. Following a successful Broadway engagement, The Addams Family went on to tour the U.S. and China, and have sit down productions in Rio De Janeiro and Sydney Australia.
