RECOGNIZING EDUCATORS WHO USE THE ARTS TO FOSTER TRANSFORMATIONAL GROWTH

Throughout his life, William A. Yandow made significant contributions to his nation, local communities, the arts, and education.

As a longtime Bushnell patron and Overseer, we want to recognize his dedication to the arts and its role in the education and development of young people with this annual educator award.

The recipient will receive:
An honorarium
A reception in their honor
Two tickets to a Bushnell show

The criteria for nomination include the following:

  • A minimum of 5 years as a teacher or administrator PK – 12 in a public, private, or charter school
  • Proven leadership with students, parents, colleagues, and community members
  • Contributions to the advancement of curriculum
  • Exceptional talent and dedication as an educator, administrator, or advocate in one of the following areas:
    • Arts Education
    • Cultural Studies
    • Language Arts

2018 WINNERS

The Bushnell Center for the Performing Arts is pleased to announce the winners of the William A. Yandow Educator Award, recognizing local educators who use the arts to foster transformational growth.

William A. Yandow was a longtime Bushnell patron and Overseer of the center, who was dedicated to the arts and its role in the education and development of young people. Mr. Yandow supported The Bushnell and its Educational programs, as well as the Florida State University/Asolo Conservatory for Actor Training, in Sarasota, FL. Mr. Yandow passed away in 2014.

The following individuals received the 2018 award at a reception in their honor at on June 24, 2018 at The Bushnell. Honorees received a monetary prize, a plaque acknowledging their achievement, and tickets to the matinee performance of On Your Feet, which immediately followed the reception.

Freddie De Jesùs is the Lead Teacher at the Renzulli Gifted and Talented Academy in Hartford, CT.

Carlos Hernandez-Chavez is a Bushnell PARTNERS Teaching Artists, visual artist and photographer and President of the Mariachi Academy of New England.

Angela Griffin is the Director of Music and the Performing Arts for Simsbury Public Schools in Simsbury, CT.

Kim Stroud is the Director of the Arts at the Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts in Hartford, CT.

Julie Joyce is a Primary Grade Teacher at the Kinsella Magnet School of the Performing Arts in Hartford, CT.
